July on the Southern Oregon coast is traditionally very pleasant. Temperatures hover in the 70s and days can often be very windy. Temperatures at night can dip in to the low 60s. Although it’s July, bring long pants and jackets because temps are on the low side and Port Orford can also be very windy. Rehearsals, daily meals, lessons will all happen in locations around the small town of Port Orford, Oregon. Students will walk to the different locations.
WHAT TO BRING
All students are required to bring a music stand. We suggest all students invest in a lightweight stand (there are some excellent very durable but lightweight plastic stands these days) so walking between events is easy. Concert dress will be black pants/skirts, black shoes and socks and colorful shirts (short sleeves OK). Daily dress can be casual, shorts or jeans and t-shirts are typical.
The small town of Port Orford is a vibrant community that enjoys the arts. It has the typical infrastructure of a coastal town, including a grocery store, gas station, convenient store, as well as quite a few restaurants and art galleries.
The festival will schedule a final concert as well as other outreach concerts, both formal and informal. Outdoor events will be scheduled depending on weather.
Students will be housed at the Oceanfront Castaway By the Sea Motel in Port Orford (a festival sponsor). Every room has a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. Click here to see more about the motel.
